Wapiti, the Native American name for Elk, are native to North America and Eastern Asia. This calf, or baby elk, could be mistaken for a fawn except for his size which is much larger than the young deer. Many cultures revere the elk for the antlers, found on the male of the species and used as an aphrodisiac, and their eye teeth which help them to make the mournful whistling sound. These teeth are ivory and are often used in jewelry.
